  1. Kathy …. WOW!
I started reading your book this afternoon and couldn’t put it down (that’s saying A LOT for a dyslexic adult, also from The Point). I’m half way through and I had to stop to write to you.
I lived on St. Antoine until our house burnt down. Then we made our way west; Ville St. Pierre, Lasalle, DDO, then moved out of province with the mass exodus on 1979. We returned briefly in 1980 then left again. My grandparents stayed in The Point until death. I was a weekend West Ender.
“With a Closed Fist” should be on the bookshelves of every Canadian.
When I finish reading it, I will write a review (EXCELLENT REVIEW) on my blog and blast it all over the twitterverse and facebook!
    Take care! Sandra Glover Clarke

      Hello Sandra!

I’m always thrilled to hear from a reader but there’s something especially wonderful about hearing from a fellow Pointer! It means so much that you took the time to write me a note, thank you so much :)

I can’t wait to know what you think once you’ve finished the book and hope you’ll let me know once you’re done, especially since you’re also from the Point. Please stay in touch!

I also grew up in Montreal, but in a very different part of it. Ms. Dobson’s gritty memoirs had me spellbound from the first paragraph. It’s as though we inhabited parallel universes. Her descriptions of alienation during her stint at Westmount High compelled me to cringe and wince. They rang so clear and true. What impressed me the most about her writing was the brash, brassy, gutsy sense of humour. What a scrappy kid! Her clothes may have been bad, the food worse, but she had her sisters. Those girls were inner-city soldiers. What a beautiful and important book.

      Dear Grace,

I can’t thank you enough for your kind and supportive words! I’m so happy that you enjoyed the book. You’re right about my sisters- they made all the difference. I couldn’t have done any of it without them.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post this review. I truly appreciate.

      Take care,

      Kathy
